My Grandmother
Taught Me
The sound of a city, remembered through the voices of home.

In a city of courtyards, salons and island summers, languages and melodies once passed freely between neighbours.
Other Songs My Grandmother Taught Me journeys into the layered, multilingual urban heritage of Istanbul — a place where Armenian, Greek and French were woven into the rhythms of everyday life.
The music of this remembered city survives in intimate gestures, family stories, shared gatherings and acoustic traces passed from one generation to the next. The project invites those memories onto the stage, opening space for the voices that have gradually faded from public hearing.
With the intimate colours of theremin and electronics played by Natali Boghossian, Zartonk Consort reimagines this world through the acoustic memory of traditional songs. Dr Ardashes Agoshian creates the arrangements and new works especially for the project, shaping a layered aural and visual experience.
The result is an invitation to hear a version of Istanbul that lingers in echoes, gestures and the quiet presence of voices that once belonged to everyday life.
